I often say if the words won’t suffice, put your thoughts into symbols.

I almost don’t need to say anything more. This expression of love is, at best, cliché, for the rose is probably the most recognized symbol around the globe of love.

The rose is trusted to mean whatever you need it to mean, should your thoughts be tangled and your words insufficient. Sending roses will do the trick. This action of sending roses can be perceived as a bit of a copout for some, a significant expression of duty for others, and a meaningful gesture that others respect and trust. We all have a unique relationship with love, therefore a unique relationship with the rose.

Before we lose the significance of the rose to those outliers in the grocery store floral department, I want to remind you of something we used to respect and understand about the rose: Self-love.
